What is a Google Business Profile?
Google Business Profile (GBP), formerly Google My Business (GMB), is a multi-featured business listing that local businesses can use to manage their presence on Google Search and Google Maps. A Google Business Profile is similar to listings on online business directories like Yelp, but it’s located directly in Google and Google maps search results.
Google Business Profile has gone beyond a simple business listing and is now considered a core component of local SEO and lead generation.
A Google My Business listing can show up in various places when a local search is performed.

Google is the kind of the internet and has the most viewership than any other online entity. For businesses, it’s where your potential customers are already looking for service and product providers, where they are already researching companies like yours and deciding if where they are going spend their money.
Google is often the first point of contact for most potential buyers for local businesses. They are searching for solutions to their problems, checking out Google Business Profiles in search of the company that can help them.
Where People View Your
Business Profile On Google Search Results
1. Google Local Pack
Google Business Profiles can show up in the Google Local Pack, or Google Local Finder.
The Local Pack is a block of business listings that appears below the map in search result pages. After performing a Google search with local intent, this is shown. Initially, three profiles appear, but you can expand them to see more.
For example, if I search for ‘landscaper, Walpole,’ something like this will show up. (see image)
All the businesses listed here appear only because they have a Google Business Profile. The information you can see here was pulled from their GBP listing.
2. Google Maps
Google Maps is a web-based app and browser-based service used for getting directions and finding local businesses / locations.
Most consumers will be familiar with Google Maps, which they’ve probably used to find a residence or local landmark. It’s also an important place for local businesses to gain online visibility.
Take a look at the image to see how a Google Business profile looks after being clicked on.
3. Google Knowledge Panel
Your business information appears in Google’s Knowledge Panels. This panel appears at the top right corner of the Google search results when people search for your company’s name.
Your Business Information panel holds important information about your business including its name, street address, phone number, and email address. If the business in questions has a Google Business Profile (GBP) page, then this information can be found in Google’s Knowledge Panel.
When searching nationally for brands like Home Depot without specifying a location, this panel appears. You can use knowledge panels for generic searches too. For this example, we’re looking for Home Depot near us. We can see that these results are pulled directly from Google Business Profile.
