In short: Fresh-cut edges and clean mulch that hold the line all season. Free written estimates across all seven towns we serve, owner on every job.
Free estimateMulch depth and the volcano problem
We handle mulch & edging for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Wrentham, Norfolk, Franklin, Foxboro, Plainville, Medway and Bellingham. Whether you need one project or care all season long, you deal with the owner. That is true from the first phone call to the final walkthrough. There is no salesperson, call center or rotating crew of subcontractors in between. We have built our name in these towns since 2012. That work spans mulch & edging and the full range of landscape and hardscape jobs. Reviews and repeat customers are the reason most of our new jobs come from word of mouth.
Mulch is not decoration — it holds moisture, blocks weeds and protects roots. A crisp spade edge is what keeps it in the bed.
We re-cut every edge by hand, clear the old material where it has matted, and install fresh mulch at the right depth — never volcanoed against trunks.
Mulch does three jobs: it holds soil moisture, it suppresses weeds, and it moderates soil temperature. It only does them at the right depth. Too thin and weeds push straight through; too thick and you create a sponge that stays wet against roots and starves them of oxygen. Two to three inches is the number, and we top rather than pile so beds do not climb higher every year.
The most common damage we fix is the mulch volcano — mulch heaped against a tree trunk. It holds moisture against the bark, invites rot and rodents, and slowly girdles the tree. We keep mulch pulled back into a flat ring so the root flare can breathe.
Common Mulch & Edging problems we fix
Most people call us about mulch & edging because something has already gone wrong, or they want to make sure it never does. These are the issues we see most often across Wrentham, Norfolk, Franklin, Foxboro, Plainville, Medway and Bellingham, and every one of them is preventable when the work is done right the first time:
- ✓Mulch piled against tree trunks (mulch volcanoes) that rot the bark
- ✓Edges that disappear after the first heavy rain
- ✓Old matted mulch that sheds water instead of holding it
- ✓Weeds coming through fresh mulch because beds were never cleared
- ✓Too-thin coverage that fades by July
What’s included with our Mulch & Edging
- ✓Hand-cut spade edges
- ✓Old mulch de-matted
- ✓Premium bark mulch
- ✓Correct 2–3 inch depth
- ✓Trunk and stem clearance
- ✓Beds weeded first
Every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell we spring on you halfway through. When we scope your mulch & edging, we spell out exactly what is included so there are no surprises on the invoice and no corners cut where you cannot see them. If your project needs something not on this list, we will tell you up front and price it separately rather than quietly leaving it out to make the number look better.

How the job runs
We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a mulch & edging job runs with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough, with the owner reachable at every step.
Before any mulch goes down, beds are weeded and old mulch that has matted into a crust is broken up so water and air can move again. Mulch over a matted layer just seals the problem in.
We cut a clean, V-shaped spade edge by hand where bed meets lawn. That edge is what makes a bed read finished and what physically holds the mulch off the grass.
Fresh bark mulch goes down at two to three inches, deep enough to suppress weeds and hold moisture but not so deep it suffocates roots. We keep it pulled back off trunks and stems to prevent rot.
Walks and drives are blown clean and the property is left tidy the day we finish.
What drives the price
Honest answer: mulch & edging is priced by the job, not off a rate card, because no two properties are the same. Anyone who quotes you a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing, and that guess usually turns into a change order later. We would rather walk the property, understand exactly what you want, and give you a real written number. A few of the things that move the price up or down:
Total bed square footage and linear feet of edge
Mulch type and how many yards the beds need
How much weeding and de-matting the beds need first
Whether old mulch is removed or topped
When to schedule
This is recurring, seasonal work from spring through fall, and the earlier you get on the route the more the results compound over the year. Our calendar for mulch & edging fills up fastest in spring and early fall, so the sooner you reach out, the more flexibility you have on timing. If you are planning ahead, we are happy to get you on the schedule early and confirm the details closer to the date.
The crew and the equipment
Every mulch & edging job is run by Seth and our own crew, not subcontractors, with the equipment and materials matched to the work in front of us. The person who quotes your job is the person on site while it is built, so nothing gets lost between the estimate and the finished result. We show up with the right machines for the job, keep the site clean while we work, and leave it the way we would want our own property left. We source our materials from suppliers we have worked with for years, so what goes into your mulch & edging is the same quality we would put on our own homes, not the cheapest thing available that week.
Our service area
Our yard is in Wrentham, so mulch & edging in Wrentham, Norfolk, Franklin, Foxboro, Plainville, Medway and Bellingham is close-to-home work for us, not a drive we pad the estimate to cover. We know the clay-heavy New England soil, the frost depth that decides how we build, and the freeze-thaw that punishes anything built shallow or drained poorly. We live and work in the same towns you do. If you ever need us back, we are only a short drive away. We also care what the neighbors think of the work, because they are our neighbors too.
About your estimate
Your mulch & edging estimate is free and in writing, with the scope spelled out line by line — no vague allowances that balloon once the work is underway. Seth walks the property with you before we quote it, listens to what you are actually trying to solve, and puts a real number on paper. If something changes once we open up the site, you hear about it before we do the work, not after. We will also tell you honestly if a smaller, cheaper approach would serve you just as well — we would rather do the right-sized job and earn the next one than oversell you once.
Why a local owner-operator
Seth Dias owns Ten Four and is on the job, not just on the estimate, so the person accountable for your mulch & edging is the person actually doing it. We have worked in these towns since 2012 and built a five-star Google reputation the honest way, one finished job at a time. A big franchise can send a different crew every visit; with us, you get the same face, the same standards and someone who still has to see you at the hardware store next week. That accountability is the whole point of hiring a local owner-operator. Our name is on the truck, on the estimate and on the reputation. Cutting a corner on your mulch & edging is never worth it to us.
Why choose Ten Four for Mulch & Edging
There are plenty of people who will quote you mulch & edging. Here is what you get with Ten Four that you do not get everywhere else:

- ✓Built for New England weather — every mulch & edging job accounts for frost, drainage and our clay-and-sand soils.
- ✓Everything in writing — a free written estimate with the scope spelled out: hand-cut spade edges, old mulch de-matted, premium bark mulch and more.
