Landscaper service in Plainville, MA

Good landscape construction starts below the surface

Looking for landscape construction in Plainville, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about fifteen minutes away.

Landscape construction is the work that changes what a property is, not just how it looks this season. A back yard that becomes a patio, an outdoor kitchen and a fire feature. A sloped lot that becomes usable with walls and steps. A wet yard that finally drains. It is also the work where mistakes are most expensive, because they sit underground where nobody sees them. Plainville homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every landscape construction job in town.

We build in the right order: drainage and grading first, then base and structure, then surface and plantings. We build every base from compacted stone at the depth this climate demands, drain every wall, and set every grade to move water away from the house. Because the same crew handles every phase, nobody tears anything up twice and nobody blames another contractor.

Why Plainville, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Landscape Construction

Plainville sits just south of our Wrentham yard along Route 1, so it is one of the shortest drives we make. The town is a mix of established neighborhoods off South Street and Messenger Street, newer developments toward the North Attleboro line, and homes around Turnpike Lake and Lake Mirimichi. There is also busy commercial frontage on Route 1 and Route 152 near Plainridge Park. Many of our Plainville customers are homeowners who want one reliable crew for the whole property instead of three different vendors.

Plainville soils run sandier and better-drained than the ledge-heavy ground to the north, especially along the Ten Mile River and the wetlands on the west side of town. But sandy soil brings its own problems. Lawns burn out in August, fertilizer leaches away before the grass can use it, and plantings need real soil amendment to establish. We also see plenty of stone and hardpan in the older neighborhoods, so we never assume what is under the surface until we dig.

Landscape Construction benefits for Plainville, MA properties

  • A yard that functions as well as it looks
  • Hardscape built to survive decades of freeze and thaw
  • Drainage solved as part of the project instead of after
  • One accountable crew from excavation to plantings
  • A written scope that keeps the price honest

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Plainville call us about landscape construction because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A patio, wall or walkway that heaved or sank within a few winters
  • Multiple contractors blaming each other while the project stalls
  • A yard that stays wet no matter what you plant
  • Slopes, ledge and drainage problems nobody planned for
  • Change orders that doubled the price mid-project
  • A beautiful design that cannot survive New England frost

What’s included

  • Site assessment, grading and drainage design
  • Excavation and compacted stone base construction
  • Paver, bluestone and natural stone hardscape
  • Retaining walls, steps and seating walls
  • Outdoor kitchens and fire features
  • Lawn installation, planting and finish grading

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope landscape construction for a Plainville property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Landscape Construction works in Plainville, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a landscape construction job runs in Plainville, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Walk the site

Seth walks the property with you, listens to what you want, and flags what the site is going to require: ledge, drainage, access, grade.

02

Plan and price

You get a written scope with the whole project sequenced and priced, so you know what the price covers before we dig.

03

Build in order

Drainage and grading, then base and structure, then surfaces and plantings. Our own crew, our own equipment, owner on site.

04

Finish and walk through

Final grading, clean-up and a walkthrough together. If something is not right, we fix it before we leave.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price landscape construction in Plainville, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Size and scope of the project and the materials chosen

Excavation, ledge removal and how much base and drainage the site needs

Access for equipment and material delivery

Phasing, permits and any engineering required

When to schedule Landscape Construction in Plainville, MA

Construction runs from the spring thaw into December in most years. Spring and early fall book first, so projects planned over the winter get the best scheduling. We can phase larger projects across seasons so the budget and the calendar both work.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You want the back yard to be a place you actually use
  • Existing hardscape has failed and needs to be rebuilt right
  • The property has slopes, ledge or water problems that limit what you can do
  • You want one crew to handle the whole project start to finish

You might be near the town center on South Street, out toward the Foxboro line or in a neighborhood off Route 106. Either way, we are only minutes away and happy to walk the property with you.

Plainville history and geography

History

Originally included in a 1635 grant of land for Dedham, Massachusetts, the area was later deemed the Plantation of Wollomonuppoag and then later becoming Wrentham, Massachusetts before Plainville branched out as a separate community. Plainville became an officially recognized town on April 4, 1905, making it the third youngest town in the state, behind Millville (1916) and East Brookfield (1920).
One of the earliest documentations of Plainville being settled is from 1674, when a Wampanoag man by the name of Matchinamook petitioned and received a few acres of land at the head of the Ten Mile River, at present day Fuller's Dam. As Matchinamook was a native warrior under Wampanoag chieftain Metacomet, or more commonly known in the area as King Philip, he most likely fought during King Philip's War. In its early days, Plainville was nicknamed Slackville after Benjamin Slack, an affluent landowner at the time. After the establishment of a post office in 1856, Plainville became the town name after the abundance of geographical plains in the area. In 1905, Plainville officially separated from Wrentham and became its own town.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.6 square miles (30 km²), of which 11.1 square miles (29 km²) is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) (4.24%) is water.
Plainville borders the towns of Wrentham, Foxborough, Mansfield, North Attleboro, and Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Infrastructure

In 2019, Plainville opened a new $34 million Municipal Complex, which included new space for the Town Hall, Fire Department, and Police. These were sited adjacent to a pre-existing public library on South Street. The new Town Hall replaced one that had been originally built in 1938 as a fire station. The Municipal Complex was funded by tax revenue from a local casino.
