How you mow a lawn decides how it looks

Looking for lawn mowing in Norfolk, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Lawn mowing sounds simple, and that is exactly why so many crews do it badly. Cutting too short, using dull blades, running the same tracks every week and mowing a wet lawn all do damage. Those are the four fastest ways to turn a decent lawn into a thin, weedy one. Norfolk homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every lawn mowing job in town.

We mow on a weekly schedule at a height that changes with the season. It is taller in summer heat to shade the soil and keep the roots deep, and shorter for the first and last cuts. We sharpen blades constantly so the mower cuts the grass instead of tearing it. Every visit includes string trimming around beds, fences and hardscape and a full blow-off of walks, patio and driveway, so the property looks finished when we pull away.

Why Norfolk, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Lawn Mowing

Norfolk is a small, wooded residential town directly north of our Wrentham yard, so we are in Norfolk almost every week. Most properties here are single-family homes on generous lots: subdivisions built from the 1980s onward, and older homes along Main Street near the town center and the MBTA station. There are also rural parcels out toward the Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and the Charles River side of town.

The ground in Norfolk is a mix of rocky glacial till on the uplands and wet, peaty soil in the lowlands. That wet ground sits near the Stop River, the Charles River and the ponds. Many lots have a high seasonal water table. It shows up as a soggy lawn in April, a heaving walkway in March and water in the basement after a thaw. Nearly every home is on a septic system, so we plan equipment routes and any excavation around the leach field before we start.

Lawn Mowing benefits for Norfolk, MA properties

  • A thicker, greener lawn simply from a correct cut
  • Fewer weeds because taller grass shades them out
  • Clean edges and blown-off hardscape every week
  • One less weekend chore, every week, all season
  • Problems spotted early by someone who sees the lawn weekly

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Norfolk call us about lawn mowing because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Grass cut too short and burned out by mid-July
  • Dull blades that shred the grass tips and leave the lawn looking brown
  • The mowing service skips a week and the lawn goes to seed
  • Ruts and clumps from mowing a soaked lawn
  • Trimming skipped, so the edges around beds and fences grow wild
  • A different crew every week with no idea where the sprinkler heads are

What’s included

  • Weekly mowing at a seasonal height
  • String trimming around every edge, bed and obstacle
  • Blowing off all walks, patios and driveways
  • Bagging or mulching clippings as the lawn needs
  • Alternating mowing patterns to prevent ruts
  • A consistent day and a consistent crew

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope lawn mowing for a Norfolk property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Lawn Mowing works in Norfolk, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a lawn mowing job runs in Norfolk, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the lawn

We check the grass type, sun and shade, irrigation and problem areas so we mow it the way it needs, not the way most crews mow every lawn.

02

Set the day

You get a regular weekly day and a season price. Rain pushes us by a day and we let you know.

03

Mow, trim, blow

Sharp blades, correct height, alternating pattern, every edge trimmed, every hard surface blown clean.

04

Watch for problems

We flag grubs, fungus, dry spots and weeds while they are small. You hear about it before it costs you.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price lawn mowing in Norfolk, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Lawn square footage and how many separate areas there are

Obstacles, slopes and the amount of trimming

Gates, access and whether clippings need hauling

Frequency and whether you bundle it with maintenance

When to schedule Lawn Mowing in Norfolk, MA

Mowing starts as soon as the grass needs it, usually mid-April, and runs until growth stops in November. New customers can start any week of the season. If your current service is unreliable, do not wait for next spring to switch.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You are behind on mowing more weekends than not
  • The current service is inconsistent or keeps changing crews
  • The lawn looks brown after every cut
  • You would rather spend Saturday morning doing anything else

Why choose Ten Four for Lawn Mowing in Norfolk, MA

Certainly, plenty of people will quote you lawn mowing in Norfolk. But here is what you get with Ten Four Landscape & Construction that you do not get everywhere else:

  • Cut right, not just cut — seasonal height, sharp blades and alternating patterns protect the lawn.
  • Same day, same crew — people who know your property and show up when they say they will.
  • Finished every visit — trimming and blow-off come standard, not extra.
  • Licensed, insured and local since 2012 — the same owner-operator since day one. We also serve Norfolk from our yard at 2570 West St in Wrentham, about twenty minutes away.
  • Everything in writing — a free written estimate with the scope spelled out before any work starts.

The job might be near Highland Lake, around Norfolk Center or out on the roads toward Millis and Medfield. Either way, we treat Norfolk like our own town, because for several of our crew it is.

Lawn Mowing questions from Norfolk, MA customers

How much does lawn mowing cost in Norfolk, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for lawn mowing in Norfolk, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
What height do you mow at?
Around three inches in summer and a bit shorter for the first and last cuts. Taller grass in the heat keeps roots deeper and crowds out weeds.
Do you bag the clippings?
We mulch them back into the lawn whenever the grass is dry and the growth is normal, which feeds the lawn. Bagging only happens when clippings would clump.
What if it rains on my day?
Rain days move you by a day, and we let you know. Mowing a saturated lawn does more harm than waiting.

Norfolk history and geography

History

Norfolk is a suburban town on the periphery of metropolitan Boston, located on an upper valley of the Charles River. The land was originally part of Dedham, which was incorporated in 1636. There were a half dozen small farms in the area after 1669, the result of a determined effort to populate the colonial frontier, despite the remoteness of the area. Wrentham separated from Dedham in 1673; what is now Norfolk was in the northern part of Wrentham. The farms were abandoned during King Philip's War in 1675–76, but repopulated later that century.
As further settlement occurred in the late 17th and 18th centuries, agriculture and cattle grazing were joined by lumbering and planting of orchards. Small villages formed around sawmills and gristmills including City Mills (1680), Mann Pond/Highland Lake (after 1691), and Pondville (after 1730). The village center of North Wrentham formed in the late 18th century. After 1812, three cotton manufacturing companies were established at Stony Brook, and later in the 19th century George Campbell's paper mill was opened at Highland Lake making heavy wrapping and building papers. The Norfolk County Railroad opened in 1849, with North Wrentham station near the village center. North Wrentham separated from Wrentham in 1870 and was incorporated as Norfolk.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 15.2 square miles (39 km²), of which 14.8 square miles (38 km²) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km²) (2.30%) is water.

Infrastructure

The Town of Norfolk instituted a Department of Public Works in 2004 which consolidated much of its infrastructure and is now responsible for eight divisions. These Divisions are Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Solid Waste, Highways, Trees, Vehicle Maintenance and Grounds which are all managed by a Director.
The Norfolk Airpark (FAA airport code 32M) had one 2,700-foot (820 m) north–south runway and is about 2 miles (3 km) west of the town center. In recent years, however, the airpark has been closed down and is currently in a state of disrepair. A seven house cul-de-sac known as Tailwind Cir now exists where the hangars used to stand while the remaining airport property is now conservation land known as Leland Wild.
