Mulch is the cheapest thing that makes a property look finished, if you do it right

Looking for mulch & edging in Wrentham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also right here in town.

Mulch and edging is the fastest visible upgrade a property can get, and also the job most often done wrong. Mulch dumped on top of weeds, piled against tree trunks and shrub stems, or spread so deep it suffocates the roots costs money now and creates problems later. Wrentham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every mulch & edging job in town.

Our crew cuts a clean, deep edge on every bed first and pulls or treats the weeds. Then we spread mulch at the right depth for the material, tapering it away from every stem and trunk. The result is a bed that holds moisture, blocks weeds and frames the plants instead of burying them, with an edge that stays crisp until the next visit.

Why Wrentham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Mulch & Edging

Wrentham is home base for Ten Four. Our yard sits on West Street, so a job anywhere in town is close-to-home work for us. That includes the historic common where Route 1A meets Route 140 as well as the Sheldonville neighborhoods on the west side. We know the properties here: large wooded lots with granite ledge just under the topsoil, and older village homes with mature trees and tired plantings. Then there are the newer subdivisions, where builder-grade grading and a thin layer of loam turn into drainage and lawn problems within a few seasons.

Much of Wrentham sits on glacial till over ledge, which means shallow bedrock in places, stones in every shovelful and soil that drains unevenly. Low ground around Lake Pearl and Lake Archer stays wet well into spring, while the higher, rockier lots dry out fast in July. That combination is exactly why base preparation, drainage and soil correction matter so much here. It is also why we look at the ground before we put a number on paper.

Mulch & Edging benefits for Wrentham, MA properties

  • Beds look defined and finished from the street
  • Mulch holds soil moisture and keeps roots cooler in summer
  • Mulch suppresses weeds instead of feeding them
  • Plants stay healthier with mulch kept off the stems
  • Crisp edges make every other part of the yard look sharper

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Wrentham call us about mulch & edging because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Mulch volcanoes piled against trees, rotting the bark
  • Weeds mulched over instead of pulled, so they push through in weeks
  • Bed edges that disappear into the lawn by June
  • Cheap dyed mulch that fades and floats away in the first storm
  • Mulch spread so deep the roots cannot breathe
  • Beds that look good for two weeks and neglected for the rest of the year

What’s included

  • Re-cutting every bed edge with a clean, deep line
  • Weeding and pre-treating the beds before mulch goes down
  • Quality mulch spread at the correct depth
  • Mulch kept away from stems, trunks and siding
  • Clean-up of all lawn and hardscape surfaces afterward
  • Optional mid-season touch-up and re-edge

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope mulch & edging for a Wrentham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Mulch & Edging works in Wrentham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a mulch & edging job runs in Wrentham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Measure the beds

We measure every bed so the mulch quantity is right and the price is exact, not a guess that leaves you short or overcharged.

02

Edge and weed

We cut a clean, deep edge on every bed, pull or treat the weeds, and rake any tired mulch to break the crust.

03

Spread at the right depth

Two to three inches of fresh mulch, tapered away from every stem and trunk so plants stay healthy.

04

Clean up

We blow the lawn, walks and driveway clean, so the only thing left behind is a finished bed.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price mulch & edging in Wrentham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Total bed square footage and mulch depth needed

Mulch type: natural hemlock, pine, black or brown

How much edging and weeding the beds need first

Access for wheelbarrows or a machine to move material

When to schedule Mulch & Edging in Wrentham, MA

Most mulch goes down between mid-April and early June, once the beds are clean and the soil has warmed. A second, lighter application in early fall keeps beds looking sharp through the holidays. We book spring mulch weeks in advance, so get on the list early.

Signs it’s time to call

  • The mulch has faded to gray and the beds look tired
  • Weeds are winning in the beds
  • Bed edges have blurred into the lawn
  • You are planning a party, a listing or a season of curb appeal

Mulch & Edging questions from Wrentham, MA customers

How much does mulch & edging cost in Wrentham, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for mulch & edging in Wrentham, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
Which mulch should I choose?
Natural hemlock and pine bark hold color and break down into good soil. Black and brown mulch give a uniform look. We will tell you honestly what suits your beds and budget.
How deep should mulch be?
Two to three inches is right for most beds. Deeper than that smothers roots and invites pests.
Do you remove the old mulch?
Usually no. We rake the old layer to break the crust and top-dress over it. If the old mulch is more than four inches deep, we remove some.

More Mulch & Edging questions, answered

Will mulch stop the weeds?
It suppresses them, especially when we weed the beds first. Nothing stops weeds forever, which is why our maintenance program includes bed care between mulchings.
Can you mulch around a septic system or leach field?
Yes, with light equipment and no heavy loads over the field. We plan the route before we start.
How often do beds need fresh mulch?
Once a year in spring for most properties, with an optional light fall refresh. Well-maintained beds need less each year.

Wrentham history and geography

History

In 1660, five men from Dedham were sent to explore the lakes near George Indian's wigwam and to report back to the selectmen what they found. The report of those men, Daniel Fisher, Anthony Fisher, Sgt. Fuller, Richard Ellis, and Richard Wheeler, was received with such enthusiasm that in March 1661 it was voted to start a new settlement there. The Town then voted to send Ellis and Timothy Dwight to go negotiate with King Philip to purchase the title to the area known as Wollomonopoag.
They purchased 600 acres of land for £24, 6s. The money was paid out of pocket by Captain Willett, who accompanied Ellis and Dwight. The Town voted to assess a tax upon the cow commons to repay him, but some thought the money should be paid by those who would be moving to the new village. The dispute resulted in Willet not being paid back for several years.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.9 square miles (59 km²), of which 22.2 square miles (57 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (3.14%) is water. Wrentham is bordered by Norfolk on the north, Foxboro on the east, Plainville and Cumberland, Rhode Island on the south, Bellingham on the southwest, and Franklin on the west. It has two large lakes towards the center of town, Lake Pearl and Lake Archer, as well as Mirror Lake on the Wrentham/Norfolk border and numerous smaller lakes.
Sheldonville, or West Wrentham, is a rural section of Wrentham located on the western leg of town. Sheldonville still maintains a unique identity as the old farming section of Wrentham, has active commercial orchards, and has its own ZIP Code (02070). Wrentham drains into four watersheds. They are the Charles River to the north, the Taunton River to the east, the Blackstone River to the west, and the Ten Mile River to the south.
Wrentham is the only town of that name in the United States. It is named after the village of Wrentham, Suffolk, England. The only other Wrentham is Wrentham, Alberta. Wrentham, Massachusetts, is by far the most populous of the three.
