A lawn program only works if every application is on time

Looking for fertilizer programs in Wrentham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also right here in town.

A fertilizer program is the difference between a lawn that survives the season and one that people notice. Most bagged programs and national franchises apply the same product on the same date everywhere. The grass in Wrentham, Franklin and Foxboro does not grow on a national schedule. Wrentham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every fertilizer programs job in town.

We build the program around soil testing, the grass types on the property and how you use the lawn. We time each application to soil temperature and growth, not the week of the month. So pre-emergent goes down before crabgrass germinates, and grub control goes down when it actually works. We apply it ourselves, on the same visits as mowing where possible, so nothing slips through.

Why Wrentham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Fertilizer Programs

Wrentham is home base for Ten Four. Our yard sits on West Street, so a job anywhere in town is close-to-home work for us. That includes the historic common where Route 1A meets Route 140 as well as the Sheldonville neighborhoods on the west side. We know the properties here: large wooded lots with granite ledge just under the topsoil, and older village homes with mature trees and tired plantings. Then there are the newer subdivisions, where builder-grade grading and a thin layer of loam turn into drainage and lawn problems within a few seasons.

Much of Wrentham sits on glacial till over ledge, which means shallow bedrock in places, stones in every shovelful and soil that drains unevenly. Low ground around Lake Pearl and Lake Archer stays wet well into spring, while the higher, rockier lots dry out fast in July. That combination is exactly why base preparation, drainage and soil correction matter so much here. It is also why we look at the ground before we put a number on paper.

Fertilizer Programs benefits for Wrentham, MA properties

  • A thicker, greener lawn that holds color through the summer
  • Crabgrass and broadleaf weeds prevented instead of fought
  • Grub control that stops damage before it destroys the lawn
  • Soil corrected so fertilizer actually works
  • One local crew doing the applications and seeing the results

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Wrentham call us about fertilizer programs because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Crabgrass every summer because the pre-emergent went down too late
  • Grubs tearing up the lawn in September after a missed application
  • Burned stripes and streaks from careless application
  • A lawn that looks fed in May and starved by August
  • Moss and thin grass from acidic soil nobody ever limed
  • Paying a national franchise that never sees the lawn between visits

What’s included

  • Soil testing to set lime and nutrient needs
  • Early spring feed with crabgrass pre-emergent
  • Late spring feed with broadleaf weed control
  • Preventive grub control at the right timing
  • Early and late fall feedings for root growth
  • Lime applications as the soil test calls for

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope fertilizer programs for a Wrentham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Fertilizer Programs works in Wrentham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a fertilizer programs job runs in Wrentham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Test the soil

We check pH and nutrients so the program matches the property. Most lawns around here need lime, and no amount of fertilizer fixes acidic soil.

02

Build the schedule

Five to six applications timed to soil temperature and growth, written out so you know what is coming and when.

03

Apply on time

Our crew applies each treatment on schedule. Pre-emergent before crabgrass germinates, grub control when it works, winterizer after growth slows.

04

Adjust and report

If a lawn is not responding, we find out why and adjust, whether that is watering, mowing height, shade or soil, and we tell you what we see.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price fertilizer programs in Wrentham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Lawn square footage

Number of applications in the program

Whether you add lime, overseeding or fungicide

Bundling with mowing and maintenance

When to schedule Fertilizer Programs in Wrentham, MA

The first application goes down in late March or April as soil temperatures rise, and the last one in November. You can join mid-season, but the earlier the program starts, the better the lawn holds up in August. Sign up over the winter to lock in the first spring application.

Signs it’s time to call

  • Crabgrass and clover take over every summer
  • The lawn thins out and browns by August no matter how much you water it
  • Grub damage or skunks digging in the lawn each fall
  • Moss in shady areas and pale, slow-growing grass

Fertilizer Programs questions from Wrentham, MA customers

How much do fertilizer programs cost in Wrentham, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for fertilizer programs in Wrentham, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
How many applications are in the program?
Five to six, depending on the lawn: early spring, late spring, summer grub control, early fall, late fall winterizer, and lime if the soil test calls for it.
Is the program safe for kids and pets?
We use products labeled for residential lawns and follow every label instruction. Keep kids and pets off the lawn until the application dries or you water it in as directed, usually a few hours.
Do I still need to water?
Yes. Fertilizer cannot replace water. We will tell you how much and how often based on the season and your soil.

More Fertilizer Programs questions, answered

Can you fix a lawn full of weeds?
Usually, over one to two seasons. Weed control plus feeding and overseeding thickens the grass so weeds lose the space they need.
Do you apply lime?
Yes, based on a soil test. Most lawns in this area are acidic and need it, and it is one of the most cost-effective things you can do.
What about grubs?
Preventive grub control goes down in early summer, before the grubs hatch. If damage has already started, we treat it and repair the lawn.

Wrentham history and geography

History

In 1660, five men from Dedham were sent to explore the lakes near George Indian's wigwam and to report back to the selectmen what they found. The report of those men, Daniel Fisher, Anthony Fisher, Sgt. Fuller, Richard Ellis, and Richard Wheeler, was received with such enthusiasm that in March 1661 it was voted to start a new settlement there. The Town then voted to send Ellis and Timothy Dwight to go negotiate with King Philip to purchase the title to the area known as Wollomonopoag.
They purchased 600 acres of land for £24, 6s. The money was paid out of pocket by Captain Willett, who accompanied Ellis and Dwight. The Town voted to assess a tax upon the cow commons to repay him, but some thought the money should be paid by those who would be moving to the new village. The dispute resulted in Willet not being paid back for several years.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.9 square miles (59 km²), of which 22.2 square miles (57 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (3.14%) is water. Wrentham is bordered by Norfolk on the north, Foxboro on the east, Plainville and Cumberland, Rhode Island on the south, Bellingham on the southwest, and Franklin on the west. It has two large lakes towards the center of town, Lake Pearl and Lake Archer, as well as Mirror Lake on the Wrentham/Norfolk border and numerous smaller lakes.
Sheldonville, or West Wrentham, is a rural section of Wrentham located on the western leg of town. Sheldonville still maintains a unique identity as the old farming section of Wrentham, has active commercial orchards, and has its own ZIP Code (02070). Wrentham drains into four watersheds. They are the Charles River to the north, the Taunton River to the east, the Blackstone River to the west, and the Ten Mile River to the south.
Wrentham is the only town of that name in the United States. It is named after the village of Wrentham, Suffolk, England. The only other Wrentham is Wrentham, Alberta. Wrentham, Massachusetts, is by far the most populous of the three.
