Landscaper service in Wrentham, MA

Good landscape construction starts below the surface

Looking for landscape construction in Wrentham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also right here in town.

Landscape construction is the work that changes what a property is, not just how it looks this season. A back yard that becomes a patio, an outdoor kitchen and a fire feature. A sloped lot that becomes usable with walls and steps. A wet yard that finally drains. It is also the work where mistakes are most expensive, because they sit underground where nobody sees them. Wrentham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every landscape construction job in town.

We build in the right order: drainage and grading first, then base and structure, then surface and plantings. We build every base from compacted stone at the depth this climate demands, drain every wall, and set every grade to move water away from the house. Because the same crew handles every phase, nobody tears anything up twice and nobody blames another contractor.

Why Wrentham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Landscape Construction

Wrentham is home base for Ten Four. Our yard sits on West Street, so a job anywhere in town is close-to-home work for us. That includes the historic common where Route 1A meets Route 140 as well as the Sheldonville neighborhoods on the west side. We know the properties here: large wooded lots with granite ledge just under the topsoil, and older village homes with mature trees and tired plantings. Then there are the newer subdivisions, where builder-grade grading and a thin layer of loam turn into drainage and lawn problems within a few seasons.

Much of Wrentham sits on glacial till over ledge, which means shallow bedrock in places, stones in every shovelful and soil that drains unevenly. Low ground around Lake Pearl and Lake Archer stays wet well into spring, while the higher, rockier lots dry out fast in July. That combination is exactly why base preparation, drainage and soil correction matter so much here. It is also why we look at the ground before we put a number on paper.

Landscape Construction benefits for Wrentham, MA properties

  • A yard that functions as well as it looks
  • Hardscape built to survive decades of freeze and thaw
  • Drainage solved as part of the project instead of after
  • One accountable crew from excavation to plantings
  • A written scope that keeps the price honest

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Wrentham call us about landscape construction because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A patio, wall or walkway that heaved or sank within a few winters
  • Multiple contractors blaming each other while the project stalls
  • A yard that stays wet no matter what you plant
  • Slopes, ledge and drainage problems nobody planned for
  • Change orders that doubled the price mid-project
  • A beautiful design that cannot survive New England frost

What’s included

  • Site assessment, grading and drainage design
  • Excavation and compacted stone base construction
  • Paver, bluestone and natural stone hardscape
  • Retaining walls, steps and seating walls
  • Outdoor kitchens and fire features
  • Lawn installation, planting and finish grading

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope landscape construction for a Wrentham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Landscape Construction works in Wrentham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a landscape construction job runs in Wrentham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Walk the site

Seth walks the property with you, listens to what you want, and flags what the site is going to require: ledge, drainage, access, grade.

02

Plan and price

You get a written scope with the whole project sequenced and priced, so you know what the price covers before we dig.

03

Build in order

Drainage and grading, then base and structure, then surfaces and plantings. Our own crew, our own equipment, owner on site.

04

Finish and walk through

Final grading, clean-up and a walkthrough together. If something is not right, we fix it before we leave.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price landscape construction in Wrentham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Size and scope of the project and the materials chosen

Excavation, ledge removal and how much base and drainage the site needs

Access for equipment and material delivery

Phasing, permits and any engineering required

When to schedule Landscape Construction in Wrentham, MA

Construction runs from the spring thaw into December in most years. Spring and early fall book first, so projects planned over the winter get the best scheduling. We can phase larger projects across seasons so the budget and the calendar both work.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You want the back yard to be a place you actually use
  • Existing hardscape has failed and needs to be rebuilt right
  • The property has slopes, ledge or water problems that limit what you can do
  • You want one crew to handle the whole project start to finish

Wrentham history and geography

History

In 1660, five men from Dedham were sent to explore the lakes near George Indian's wigwam and to report back to the selectmen what they found. The report of those men, Daniel Fisher, Anthony Fisher, Sgt. Fuller, Richard Ellis, and Richard Wheeler, was received with such enthusiasm that in March 1661 it was voted to start a new settlement there. The Town then voted to send Ellis and Timothy Dwight to go negotiate with King Philip to purchase the title to the area known as Wollomonopoag.
They purchased 600 acres of land for £24, 6s. The money was paid out of pocket by Captain Willett, who accompanied Ellis and Dwight. The Town voted to assess a tax upon the cow commons to repay him, but some thought the money should be paid by those who would be moving to the new village. The dispute resulted in Willet not being paid back for several years.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.9 square miles (59 km²), of which 22.2 square miles (57 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (3.14%) is water. Wrentham is bordered by Norfolk on the north, Foxboro on the east, Plainville and Cumberland, Rhode Island on the south, Bellingham on the southwest, and Franklin on the west. It has two large lakes towards the center of town, Lake Pearl and Lake Archer, as well as Mirror Lake on the Wrentham/Norfolk border and numerous smaller lakes.
Sheldonville, or West Wrentham, is a rural section of Wrentham located on the western leg of town. Sheldonville still maintains a unique identity as the old farming section of Wrentham, has active commercial orchards, and has its own ZIP Code (02070). Wrentham drains into four watersheds. They are the Charles River to the north, the Taunton River to the east, the Blackstone River to the west, and the Ten Mile River to the south.
Wrentham is the only town of that name in the United States. It is named after the village of Wrentham, Suffolk, England. The only other Wrentham is Wrentham, Alberta. Wrentham, Massachusetts, is by far the most populous of the three.
