A firepit is the reason people actually use the back yard

Looking for outdoor firepits & seating areas in Wrentham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also right here in town.

Outdoor firepits and seating areas are the difference between a patio you look at and a patio you live on. A well-built firepit adds an evening to every day from April through November and turns a back yard into the place friends want to be. Wrentham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every outdoor firepits & seating areas job in town.

We build the whole space, not just the ring. That means a compacted base and patio surface, then a firepit built from fire-rated block or natural stone with a steel insert. Finally, we add seating walls or a built-in bench at the right height and distance. Wood-burning or gas, round or square, matched to your patio and your property, with clearances that keep it safe.

Why Wrentham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas

Wrentham is home base for Ten Four. Our yard sits on West Street, so a job anywhere in town is close-to-home work for us. That includes the historic common where Route 1A meets Route 140 as well as the Sheldonville neighborhoods on the west side. We know the properties here: large wooded lots with granite ledge just under the topsoil, and older village homes with mature trees and tired plantings. Then there are the newer subdivisions, where builder-grade grading and a thin layer of loam turn into drainage and lawn problems within a few seasons.

Much of Wrentham sits on glacial till over ledge, which means shallow bedrock in places, stones in every shovelful and soil that drains unevenly. Low ground around Lake Pearl and Lake Archer stays wet well into spring, while the higher, rockier lots dry out fast in July. That combination is exactly why base preparation, drainage and soil correction matter so much here. It is also why we look at the ground before we put a number on paper.

Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas benefits for Wrentham, MA properties

  • Two more months of outdoor living at each end of the season

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Wrentham call us about outdoor firepits & seating areas because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A store-bought ring rusting on the lawn and killing the grass
  • A firepit too close to the house, deck or trees
  • Seating that is the wrong height or too far from the fire
  • Smoke that follows everyone around because the layout ignores the prevailing wind
  • A firepit built on soil that has already started to sink
  • A patio with no focal point that nobody uses after dinner

What’s included

  • Compacted base and patio surface around the fire feature
  • Firepit built from fire-rated block or natural stone
  • Steel insert or gas burner kit and igniter
  • Seating walls or built-in benches with capstones
  • Proper clearances from structures and plantings
  • Optional lighting and gas line coordination

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope outdoor firepits & seating areas for a Wrentham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas works in Wrentham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a outdoor firepits & seating areas job runs in Wrentham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Choose the spot

We look at the view, the wind, the distance from the house and the trees, and place the firepit where you will actually use it.

02

Build the base

A firepit is a hardscape structure; it gets the same compacted stone base as a patio so it never sinks or tilts.

03

Build the fire feature

Fire-rated block or natural stone, a steel insert or gas burner, and a cap that is comfortable to set a drink on.

04

Add the seating

Seating walls or benches at the right height and distance, capped and finished to match the patio.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price outdoor firepits & seating areas in Wrentham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Wood-burning or gas, and the burner or insert chosen

Size of the firepit and the seating walls

Patio square footage around the feature

Gas line, electrical and lighting if included

When to schedule Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas in Wrentham, MA

We build fire features spring through early winter along with patios and walls, and a firepit finished in October sees use through the holidays. Many customers add a firepit to an existing patio in a few days; new patio and firepit projects book best when planned a season ahead.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You have a patio nobody uses after dinner
  • A portable firepit is scorching the lawn
  • You want to use the yard in April and October, not just July
  • You are planning a patio and want it to have a reason to exist

Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas questions from Wrentham, MA customers

How much do outdoor firepits & seating areas cost in Wrentham, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for outdoor firepits & seating areas in Wrentham, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
Wood-burning or gas?
Wood gives the real crackle and smell and costs less to build. Gas lights instantly, produces no smoke and needs a gas line. We build both and will walk you through the trade-offs.
How far from the house should a firepit be?
Generally at least ten feet from any structure, and clear of overhanging branches. We follow local requirements and place it where it is safe and usable.
Can you add a firepit to my existing patio?
Yes, if the base under the patio is sound. If not, we rebuild that section so the fire feature does not sink.

More Outdoor Firepits & Seating Areas questions, answered

What size should the seating area be?
Large enough for the group you actually host. A ten to twelve foot circle seats six to eight people comfortably around a standard firepit.
Do you build seating walls or just the pit?
Both. Seating walls, built-in benches and matching capstones are part of most firepit projects.
Is a permit required?
Requirements vary by town, especially for gas. We check and handle whatever the town requires.

Wrentham history and geography

History

In 1660, five men from Dedham were sent to explore the lakes near George Indian's wigwam and to report back to the selectmen what they found. The report of those men, Daniel Fisher, Anthony Fisher, Sgt. Fuller, Richard Ellis, and Richard Wheeler, was received with such enthusiasm that in March 1661 it was voted to start a new settlement there. The Town then voted to send Ellis and Timothy Dwight to go negotiate with King Philip to purchase the title to the area known as Wollomonopoag.
They purchased 600 acres of land for £24, 6s. The money was paid out of pocket by Captain Willett, who accompanied Ellis and Dwight. The Town voted to assess a tax upon the cow commons to repay him, but some thought the money should be paid by those who would be moving to the new village. The dispute resulted in Willet not being paid back for several years.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.9 square miles (59 km²), of which 22.2 square miles (57 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (3.14%) is water. Wrentham is bordered by Norfolk on the north, Foxboro on the east, Plainville and Cumberland, Rhode Island on the south, Bellingham on the southwest, and Franklin on the west. It has two large lakes towards the center of town, Lake Pearl and Lake Archer, as well as Mirror Lake on the Wrentham/Norfolk border and numerous smaller lakes.
Sheldonville, or West Wrentham, is a rural section of Wrentham located on the western leg of town. Sheldonville still maintains a unique identity as the old farming section of Wrentham, has active commercial orchards, and has its own ZIP Code (02070). Wrentham drains into four watersheds. They are the Charles River to the north, the Taunton River to the east, the Blackstone River to the west, and the Ten Mile River to the south.
Wrentham is the only town of that name in the United States. It is named after the village of Wrentham, Suffolk, England. The only other Wrentham is Wrentham, Alberta. Wrentham, Massachusetts, is by far the most populous of the three.
