Landscaper service in Norfolk, MA

Every good project starts with the site done right

Looking for sitework in Norfolk, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Sitework is the part of a project nobody photographs and everybody depends on. The grade that keeps water out of the basement, the compacted base under the driveway, the trench for the drain line and the restoration after the pool company leaves are all sitework. All of it has to be right before anything built on top of it can be. Norfolk homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every sitework job in town.

We run our own excavators, skid steers and compaction equipment. So we can handle a yard restoration after a septic replacement, a driveway base, a drainage trench or the excavation for a full landscape project. There is no waiting on someone else. We shoot grades with a laser, manage spoils responsibly and leave the site clean and ready for whatever comes next.

Why Norfolk, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Sitework

Norfolk is a small, wooded residential town directly north of our Wrentham yard, so we are in Norfolk almost every week. Most properties here are single-family homes on generous lots: subdivisions built from the 1980s onward, and older homes along Main Street near the town center and the MBTA station. There are also rural parcels out toward the Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and the Charles River side of town.

The ground in Norfolk is a mix of rocky glacial till on the uplands and wet, peaty soil in the lowlands. That wet ground sits near the Stop River, the Charles River and the ponds. Many lots have a high seasonal water table. It shows up as a soggy lawn in April, a heaving walkway in March and water in the basement after a thaw. Nearly every home is on a septic system, so we plan equipment routes and any excavation around the leach field before we start.

Sitework benefits for Norfolk, MA properties

  • Water moved away from the house for good
  • A yard restored to lawn and beds after construction
  • Bases that stay flat under driveways, pads and hardscape
  • One crew with its own equipment instead of a chain of subcontractors
  • A site that is ready for the next project

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Norfolk call us about sitework because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Water running toward the house because nobody ever graded the lot properly
  • A yard destroyed by a pool, septic or foundation project and left as dirt
  • Stumps and brush taking over the back of the property
  • A gravel driveway that washes out every spring
  • A pad or shed base with no compaction under it
  • Waiting weeks for an excavator to fit you in

What’s included

  • Excavation and trenching
  • Rough and finish grading to move water away from structures
  • Compacted base for driveways, pads and hardscape
  • Brush clearing and small stump removal
  • Site restoration with loam and lawn after construction
  • Drainage installation and material hauling

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope sitework for a Norfolk property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Sitework works in Norfolk, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a sitework job runs in Norfolk, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the water

Every site plan starts with where water comes from and where it needs to go. We shoot the grades and plan the drainage before we dig.

02

Excavate and grade

Our own equipment handles the excavation, trenching and rough grading, with spoils managed and hauled as needed.

03

Compact and base

Driveways, pads and hardscape areas get a compacted stone base built in lifts so they do not settle.

04

Restore and finish

Finish grading, loam and lawn or beds put the property back together, cleaner than we found it.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price sitework in Norfolk, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Volume of excavation and material to move or haul

Grading area and how much loam the job needs

Drainage, base and compaction requirements

Access, ledge and disposal

When to schedule Sitework in Norfolk, MA

Sitework runs from the spring thaw until the ground freezes. Restoration after pool and septic projects is best done immediately so the yard does not erode all summer. Driveway and pad bases need dry conditions, so late spring through fall is ideal.

Signs it’s time to call

  • Water pools against the foundation or floods the yard
  • A construction project left the yard as a dirt lot
  • You need a base for a driveway, shed, pad or patio
  • Brush and stumps have taken over part of the property

Why choose Ten Four for Sitework in Norfolk, MA

Certainly, plenty of people will quote you sitework in Norfolk. But here is what you get with Ten Four Landscape & Construction that you do not get everywhere else:

  • Our own equipment and operators — no waiting on a subcontractor’s schedule.
  • Grades set with a laser — water goes where it should, every time.
  • Cleaned up and restored — you get a finished site, not just a dug one.
  • Licensed, insured and local since 2012 — the same owner-operator since day one. We also serve Norfolk from our yard at 2570 West St in Wrentham, about twenty minutes away.
  • Everything in writing — a free written estimate with the scope spelled out before any work starts.

The job might be near Highland Lake, around Norfolk Center or out on the roads toward Millis and Medfield. Either way, we treat Norfolk like our own town, because for several of our crew it is.

Norfolk history and geography

History

Norfolk is a suburban town on the periphery of metropolitan Boston, located on an upper valley of the Charles River. The land was originally part of Dedham, which was incorporated in 1636. There were a half dozen small farms in the area after 1669, the result of a determined effort to populate the colonial frontier, despite the remoteness of the area. Wrentham separated from Dedham in 1673; what is now Norfolk was in the northern part of Wrentham. The farms were abandoned during King Philip's War in 1675–76, but repopulated later that century.
As further settlement occurred in the late 17th and 18th centuries, agriculture and cattle grazing were joined by lumbering and planting of orchards. Small villages formed around sawmills and gristmills including City Mills (1680), Mann Pond/Highland Lake (after 1691), and Pondville (after 1730). The village center of North Wrentham formed in the late 18th century. After 1812, three cotton manufacturing companies were established at Stony Brook, and later in the 19th century George Campbell's paper mill was opened at Highland Lake making heavy wrapping and building papers. The Norfolk County Railroad opened in 1849, with North Wrentham station near the village center. North Wrentham separated from Wrentham in 1870 and was incorporated as Norfolk.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 15.2 square miles (39 km²), of which 14.8 square miles (38 km²) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km²) (2.30%) is water.

Infrastructure

The Town of Norfolk instituted a Department of Public Works in 2004 which consolidated much of its infrastructure and is now responsible for eight divisions. These Divisions are Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Solid Waste, Highways, Trees, Vehicle Maintenance and Grounds which are all managed by a Director.
The Norfolk Airpark (FAA airport code 32M) had one 2,700-foot (820 m) north–south runway and is about 2 miles (3 km) west of the town center. In recent years, however, the airpark has been closed down and is currently in a state of disrepair. A seven house cul-de-sac known as Tailwind Cir now exists where the hangars used to stand while the remaining airport property is now conservation land known as Leland Wild.
