Hydroseed is the fastest way to a real lawn on a big site

Looking for hydroseeding in Wrentham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also right here in town.

Hydroseeding is the right answer for the big jobs. Think of a new construction lot, or a yard torn up by a pool or septic project. It also fits a slope that washes out every time someone seeds it, or a lawn too large for sod to make sense. The slurry holds the seed in place, keeps it moist and gives it a head start that broadcast seeding cannot match. Wrentham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every hydroseeding job in town.

The lawn is still only as good as the soil, so we grade, loam and amend before we spray. We also choose a seed blend for your sun, shade and use rather than a generic contractor mix. Then the hydroseed goes down in one even pass, green for a few weeks so you can see the coverage. With a simple watering schedule, the lawn is up in a couple of weeks and mowable in about a month.

Why Wrentham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Hydroseeding

Wrentham is home base for Ten Four. Our yard sits on West Street, so a job anywhere in town is close-to-home work for us. That includes the historic common where Route 1A meets Route 140 as well as the Sheldonville neighborhoods on the west side. We know the properties here: large wooded lots with granite ledge just under the topsoil, and older village homes with mature trees and tired plantings. Then there are the newer subdivisions, where builder-grade grading and a thin layer of loam turn into drainage and lawn problems within a few seasons.

Much of Wrentham sits on glacial till over ledge, which means shallow bedrock in places, stones in every shovelful and soil that drains unevenly. Low ground around Lake Pearl and Lake Archer stays wet well into spring, while the higher, rockier lots dry out fast in July. That combination is exactly why base preparation, drainage and soil correction matter so much here. It is also why we look at the ground before we put a number on paper.

Hydroseeding benefits for Wrentham, MA properties

  • Fast, even germination across large areas
  • Seed that stays put on slopes and in rain
  • A fraction of the cost of sod on big lawns
  • A blend chosen for the site instead of a generic mix
  • Erosion stopped while the lawn establishes

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Wrentham call us about hydroseeding because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A new construction lot with no lawn and erosion every time it rains
  • A yard destroyed by a pool, septic or foundation project
  • Broadcast seed that washed away or came in patchy
  • Slopes that will not hold seed
  • A sod quote that is out of reach for a large area
  • A contractor mix full of weeds and the wrong grass

What’s included

  • Grading, loam and soil amendment as needed
  • Seed blend matched to sun, shade and use
  • Hydroseed application with fiber mulch, tackifier and fertilizer
  • Erosion control on slopes
  • Watering schedule and first-mow guidance
  • Follow-up overseeding of any thin spots

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope hydroseeding for a Wrentham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Hydroseeding works in Wrentham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a hydroseeding job runs in Wrentham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Prepare the soil

Grade for drainage, add loam where needed, correct pH and relieve compaction. Hydroseed on bad soil is still a bad lawn.

02

Match the seed

A blend chosen for your property: sun, shade, traffic and how much maintenance you want.

03

Spray it on

One even pass of seed, fiber mulch, tackifier and starter fertilizer that locks the seed to the soil, even on slopes.

04

Water and establish

You water lightly and often for the first weeks. Germination in seven to fourteen days, first mow around four weeks.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price hydroseeding in Wrentham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Square footage to seed

Soil preparation, grading and loam needed

Seed blend and slope or erosion control

Access for the hydroseed truck and hose runs

When to schedule Hydroseeding in Wrentham, MA

Late August through early October is ideal, and spring from mid-April through May works well once the soil warms. Summer hydroseeding is possible with irrigation. New construction sites should get seed as soon as the final grade goes in so the soil does not erode or grow weeds.

Signs it’s time to call

  • A large area of bare soil after construction
  • Erosion on a slope or along a driveway
  • A sod estimate that does not fit the budget
  • Hand seeding that failed once already

Hydroseeding questions from Wrentham, MA customers

How much does hydroseeding cost in Wrentham, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for hydroseeding in Wrentham, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
How does hydroseeding compare to sod?
Sod is instant and costs several times more. Hydroseed takes a few weeks to establish and is far more economical for large areas, with excellent results on prepared soil.
How long until it germinates?
Seven to fourteen days with proper watering, with a first mow around four weeks and a mature lawn by the following season.
Can you hydroseed a slope?
Yes. The fiber mulch and tackifier hold the seed on slopes where broadcast seed washes away, and we add erosion control where needed.

More Hydroseeding questions, answered

What do I need to do after?
Keep the soil moist for the first two to three weeks with light, frequent watering, and stay off the area until the first mow.
Does the green color matter?
The green dye just shows coverage so we miss nothing. It fades in a couple of weeks as the grass comes in.
Will the lawn have weeds?
Some annual weeds always show up in a new lawn and mow out. We use clean seed and follow up with weed control and overseeding of thin spots.

Wrentham history and geography

History

In 1660, five men from Dedham were sent to explore the lakes near George Indian's wigwam and to report back to the selectmen what they found. The report of those men, Daniel Fisher, Anthony Fisher, Sgt. Fuller, Richard Ellis, and Richard Wheeler, was received with such enthusiasm that in March 1661 it was voted to start a new settlement there. The Town then voted to send Ellis and Timothy Dwight to go negotiate with King Philip to purchase the title to the area known as Wollomonopoag.
They purchased 600 acres of land for £24, 6s. The money was paid out of pocket by Captain Willett, who accompanied Ellis and Dwight. The Town voted to assess a tax upon the cow commons to repay him, but some thought the money should be paid by those who would be moving to the new village. The dispute resulted in Willet not being paid back for several years.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 22.9 square miles (59 km²), of which 22.2 square miles (57 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (3.14%) is water. Wrentham is bordered by Norfolk on the north, Foxboro on the east, Plainville and Cumberland, Rhode Island on the south, Bellingham on the southwest, and Franklin on the west. It has two large lakes towards the center of town, Lake Pearl and Lake Archer, as well as Mirror Lake on the Wrentham/Norfolk border and numerous smaller lakes.
Sheldonville, or West Wrentham, is a rural section of Wrentham located on the western leg of town. Sheldonville still maintains a unique identity as the old farming section of Wrentham, has active commercial orchards, and has its own ZIP Code (02070). Wrentham drains into four watersheds. They are the Charles River to the north, the Taunton River to the east, the Blackstone River to the west, and the Ten Mile River to the south.
Wrentham is the only town of that name in the United States. It is named after the village of Wrentham, Suffolk, England. The only other Wrentham is Wrentham, Alberta. Wrentham, Massachusetts, is by far the most populous of the three.
