Mulch materials and wood chips

Mulch covers soil, holds moisture and blocks weeds. For that reason, we stock four options, from natural hemlock to bold black. So whether you want a traditional look or strong contrast, there is a match. In addition, natural wood chips cover paths and large areas economically.

Stone materials: bluestone and field stone

Stone builds driveways, drains water and edges beds. Our crushed bluestone comes in two sizes: first, ¾″ for driveways and drainage, and second, ⅜″ for pavers and paths. Meanwhile, 1½″ natural stone handles dry wells and drip edges, and New England field stone builds walls with local character.

Loam and compost

Screened loam and screened compost are the soil materials behind healthy lawns and gardens. Loam builds and levels, whereas compost enriches. As a result, many gardeners order both and then blend them for raised beds and new plantings.

Base materials: sand and millings

Sand and screened asphalt millings are the quiet workhorses. Sand levels and beds, while millings compact into a firm driveway surface. For that reason, both show up on most driveway, patio and utility jobs.

How to estimate materials

All of our materials are sold by the cubic yard. To estimate, first multiply length by width in feet. Then multiply by depth in inches and divide by 324. For example, a 10 by 30 foot bed at 3 inches deep needs about 2.8 yards, so you would order 3.

• Mulch beds need 2 to 3 inches
• Wood chip paths, however, need 3 to 4 inches
• Stone driveways need 3 to 4 inches, compacted
• Paver beds take about 1 inch of ⅜″ stone or sand
• A new lawn, meanwhile, needs 4 to 6 inches of screened loam
• Finally, compost top-dressing is about ¼ inch

Delivery and pickup

We deliver to Wrentham, Norfolk, Franklin, Foxborough, Plainville, Medway and Bellingham. Alternatively, you can pick up at 26 Industrial Rd during yard hours, and we will load you with the loader. Either way, the price is confirmed before anything leaves the yard.
