How you mow a lawn decides how it looks

Looking for lawn mowing in Medway, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Lawn mowing sounds simple, and that is exactly why so many crews do it badly. Cutting too short, using dull blades, running the same tracks every week and mowing a wet lawn all do damage. Those are the four fastest ways to turn a decent lawn into a thin, weedy one. Medway homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every lawn mowing job in town.

We mow on a weekly schedule at a height that changes with the season. It is taller in summer heat to shade the soil and keep the roots deep, and shorter for the first and last cuts. We sharpen blades constantly so the mower cuts the grass instead of tearing it. Every visit includes string trimming around beds, fences and hardscape and a full blow-off of walks, patio and driveway, so the property looks finished when we pull away.

Why Medway, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Lawn Mowing

Medway is a family-oriented town on the Charles River, north of Franklin. Its neighborhoods range from the historic homes of Medway Village along Village Street to ranch and colonial subdivisions off Route 109, Holliston Street and Winthrop Street. Lots here tend to be flatter and more open than in the ledge-heavy towns to the south, and many homeowners have real yards to work with. That makes Medway a great place for patios, lawns and plantings done right the first time.

The Charles River and Chicken Brook shape the ground in Medway. Soil near the river is sandy and drains fast, while the inland neighborhoods often sit on compacted till or old farmland with a hard layer under the topsoil. Both create lawn and drainage problems that look identical on the surface and need completely different fixes. That is why we check the soil and watch how water moves across the property before we recommend anything.

Lawn Mowing benefits for Medway, MA properties

  • A thicker, greener lawn simply from a correct cut
  • Fewer weeds because taller grass shades them out
  • Clean edges and blown-off hardscape every week
  • One less weekend chore, every week, all season
  • Problems spotted early by someone who sees the lawn weekly

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Medway call us about lawn mowing because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Grass cut too short and burned out by mid-July
  • Dull blades that shred the grass tips and leave the lawn looking brown
  • The mowing service skips a week and the lawn goes to seed
  • Ruts and clumps from mowing a soaked lawn
  • Trimming skipped, so the edges around beds and fences grow wild
  • A different crew every week with no idea where the sprinkler heads are

What’s included

  • Weekly mowing at a seasonal height
  • String trimming around every edge, bed and obstacle
  • Blowing off all walks, patios and driveways
  • Bagging or mulching clippings as the lawn needs
  • Alternating mowing patterns to prevent ruts
  • A consistent day and a consistent crew

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope lawn mowing for a Medway property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Lawn Mowing works in Medway, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a lawn mowing job runs in Medway, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the lawn

We check the grass type, sun and shade, irrigation and problem areas so we mow it the way it needs, not the way most crews mow every lawn.

02

Set the day

You get a regular weekly day and a season price. Rain pushes us by a day and we let you know.

03

Mow, trim, blow

Sharp blades, correct height, alternating pattern, every edge trimmed, every hard surface blown clean.

04

Watch for problems

We flag grubs, fungus, dry spots and weeds while they are small. You hear about it before it costs you.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price lawn mowing in Medway, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Lawn square footage and how many separate areas there are

Obstacles, slopes and the amount of trimming

Gates, access and whether clippings need hauling

Frequency and whether you bundle it with maintenance

When to schedule Lawn Mowing in Medway, MA

Mowing starts as soon as the grass needs it, usually mid-April, and runs until growth stops in November. New customers can start any week of the season. If your current service is unreliable, do not wait for next spring to switch.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You are behind on mowing more weekends than not
  • The current service is inconsistent or keeps changing crews
  • The lawn looks brown after every cut
  • You would rather spend Saturday morning doing anything else

Lawn Mowing questions from Medway, MA customers

How much does lawn mowing cost in Medway, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for lawn mowing in Medway, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
What height do you mow at?
Around three inches in summer and a bit shorter for the first and last cuts. Taller grass in the heat keeps roots deeper and crowds out weeds.
Do you bag the clippings?
We mulch them back into the lawn whenever the grass is dry and the growth is normal, which feeds the lawn. Bagging only happens when clippings would clump.
What if it rains on my day?
Rain days move you by a day, and we let you know. Mowing a saturated lawn does more harm than waiting.

Do you mow commercial properties?
Yes. Offices, retail frontage, condominium common areas and managed properties are all on our weekly routes.
Can I add fertilizer or clean-ups to the mowing?

Medway history and geography

History

Medway was first settled in 1657 and was officially incorporated in 1713. At that time, Medway began as a farming community of two hundred thirty-three. It was not long before the water power of the Charles River and Chicken Brook stimulated the formation of cotton and paper mills, straw and boot factories, and a variety of cottage industries. Medway demonstrates the central importance of the Charles River and the thriving town that grew alongside it. Today, the one-room schoolhouses are gone and the country stores have moved to the mall, but the open town meetings continue.
After nearby Medfield was established as a town in 1651, an increasing number of newcomers settled on the land west of the Charles River. By 1712, this settlement west of the Charles had grown large enough to petition the Massachusetts General Court for the creation of a separate new town. That petition was granted, and the town of Medway incorporated on October 25, 1713. At its founding by Henry Garnsey, and for 170 years afterward, the town of Medway included the land that is now Millis. Eventually, the eastern section of the town, known as East Medway, separated in 1885 to form the town of Millis, and Medway assumed the shape it has today.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.5 square miles (30 km²), of which 11.4 square miles (30 km²) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km²) (0.78%) is water. Medway is the geographical center between Boston, Worcester, and Providence, which is purported by some to explain the origin of the name. However, like many New England cities and towns, it most likely derived its name from an English location, in this case, the region of Medway, England, or the River Medway. Likely both its geographical location and a nod to old England compelled the choice of town name.

Transportation

Both Route 109 and Route 126 pass through the town and serve as some of the main roads in the town. Interstate 495 shortly passes through the southwest corner of the town, but does not provide any exits. The closest exits are in nearby Bellingham and Milford.
The closest MBTA Commuter Rail service is at Forge Park/495, Franklin, and Norfolk stations on the Franklin/Foxboro Line. Until 1966, the Millis Branch served stations at Medway and West Medway.
