Hydroseed is the fastest way to a real lawn on a big site

Looking for hydroseeding in Medway, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Hydroseeding is the right answer for the big jobs. Think of a new construction lot, or a yard torn up by a pool or septic project. It also fits a slope that washes out every time someone seeds it, or a lawn too large for sod to make sense. The slurry holds the seed in place, keeps it moist and gives it a head start that broadcast seeding cannot match. Medway homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every hydroseeding job in town.

The lawn is still only as good as the soil, so we grade, loam and amend before we spray. We also choose a seed blend for your sun, shade and use rather than a generic contractor mix. Then the hydroseed goes down in one even pass, green for a few weeks so you can see the coverage. With a simple watering schedule, the lawn is up in a couple of weeks and mowable in about a month.

Why Medway, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Hydroseeding

Medway is a family-oriented town on the Charles River, north of Franklin. Its neighborhoods range from the historic homes of Medway Village along Village Street to ranch and colonial subdivisions off Route 109, Holliston Street and Winthrop Street. Lots here tend to be flatter and more open than in the ledge-heavy towns to the south, and many homeowners have real yards to work with. That makes Medway a great place for patios, lawns and plantings done right the first time.

The Charles River and Chicken Brook shape the ground in Medway. Soil near the river is sandy and drains fast, while the inland neighborhoods often sit on compacted till or old farmland with a hard layer under the topsoil. Both create lawn and drainage problems that look identical on the surface and need completely different fixes. That is why we check the soil and watch how water moves across the property before we recommend anything.

Hydroseeding benefits for Medway, MA properties

  • Fast, even germination across large areas
  • Seed that stays put on slopes and in rain
  • A fraction of the cost of sod on big lawns
  • A blend chosen for the site instead of a generic mix
  • Erosion stopped while the lawn establishes

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Medway call us about hydroseeding because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A new construction lot with no lawn and erosion every time it rains
  • A yard destroyed by a pool, septic or foundation project
  • Broadcast seed that washed away or came in patchy
  • Slopes that will not hold seed
  • A sod quote that is out of reach for a large area
  • A contractor mix full of weeds and the wrong grass

What’s included

  • Grading, loam and soil amendment as needed
  • Seed blend matched to sun, shade and use
  • Hydroseed application with fiber mulch, tackifier and fertilizer
  • Erosion control on slopes
  • Watering schedule and first-mow guidance
  • Follow-up overseeding of any thin spots

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope hydroseeding for a Medway property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Hydroseeding works in Medway, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a hydroseeding job runs in Medway, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Prepare the soil

Grade for drainage, add loam where needed, correct pH and relieve compaction. Hydroseed on bad soil is still a bad lawn.

02

Match the seed

A blend chosen for your property: sun, shade, traffic and how much maintenance you want.

03

Spray it on

One even pass of seed, fiber mulch, tackifier and starter fertilizer that locks the seed to the soil, even on slopes.

04

Water and establish

You water lightly and often for the first weeks. Germination in seven to fourteen days, first mow around four weeks.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price hydroseeding in Medway, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Square footage to seed

Soil preparation, grading and loam needed

Seed blend and slope or erosion control

Access for the hydroseed truck and hose runs

When to schedule Hydroseeding in Medway, MA

Late August through early October is ideal, and spring from mid-April through May works well once the soil warms. Summer hydroseeding is possible with irrigation. New construction sites should get seed as soon as the final grade goes in so the soil does not erode or grow weeds.

Signs it’s time to call

  • A large area of bare soil after construction
  • Erosion on a slope or along a driveway
  • A sod estimate that does not fit the budget
  • Hand seeding that failed once already

Hydroseeding questions from Medway, MA customers

How much does hydroseeding cost in Medway, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for hydroseeding in Medway, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
How does hydroseeding compare to sod?
Sod is instant and costs several times more. Hydroseed takes a few weeks to establish and is far more economical for large areas, with excellent results on prepared soil.
How long until it germinates?
Seven to fourteen days with proper watering, with a first mow around four weeks and a mature lawn by the following season.
Can you hydroseed a slope?
Yes. The fiber mulch and tackifier hold the seed on slopes where broadcast seed washes away, and we add erosion control where needed.

More Hydroseeding questions, answered

What do I need to do after?
Keep the soil moist for the first two to three weeks with light, frequent watering, and stay off the area until the first mow.
Does the green color matter?
The green dye just shows coverage so we miss nothing. It fades in a couple of weeks as the grass comes in.
Will the lawn have weeds?
Some annual weeds always show up in a new lawn and mow out. We use clean seed and follow up with weed control and overseeding of thin spots.

Medway history and geography

History

Medway was first settled in 1657 and was officially incorporated in 1713. At that time, Medway began as a farming community of two hundred thirty-three. It was not long before the water power of the Charles River and Chicken Brook stimulated the formation of cotton and paper mills, straw and boot factories, and a variety of cottage industries. Medway demonstrates the central importance of the Charles River and the thriving town that grew alongside it. Today, the one-room schoolhouses are gone and the country stores have moved to the mall, but the open town meetings continue.
After nearby Medfield was established as a town in 1651, an increasing number of newcomers settled on the land west of the Charles River. By 1712, this settlement west of the Charles had grown large enough to petition the Massachusetts General Court for the creation of a separate new town. That petition was granted, and the town of Medway incorporated on October 25, 1713. At its founding by Henry Garnsey, and for 170 years afterward, the town of Medway included the land that is now Millis. Eventually, the eastern section of the town, known as East Medway, separated in 1885 to form the town of Millis, and Medway assumed the shape it has today.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.5 square miles (30 km²), of which 11.4 square miles (30 km²) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km²) (0.78%) is water. Medway is the geographical center between Boston, Worcester, and Providence, which is purported by some to explain the origin of the name. However, like many New England cities and towns, it most likely derived its name from an English location, in this case, the region of Medway, England, or the River Medway. Likely both its geographical location and a nod to old England compelled the choice of town name.

Transportation

Both Route 109 and Route 126 pass through the town and serve as some of the main roads in the town. Interstate 495 shortly passes through the southwest corner of the town, but does not provide any exits. The closest exits are in nearby Bellingham and Milford.
The closest MBTA Commuter Rail service is at Forge Park/495, Franklin, and Norfolk stations on the Franklin/Foxboro Line. Until 1966, the Millis Branch served stations at Medway and West Medway.
