How you mow a lawn decides how it looks

Looking for lawn mowing in Bellingham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about fifteen minutes away.

Lawn mowing sounds simple, and that is exactly why so many crews do it badly. Cutting too short, using dull blades, running the same tracks every week and mowing a wet lawn all do damage. Those are the four fastest ways to turn a decent lawn into a thin, weedy one. Bellingham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every lawn mowing job in town.

We mow on a weekly schedule at a height that changes with the season. It is taller in summer heat to shade the soil and keep the roots deep, and shorter for the first and last cuts. We sharpen blades constantly so the mower cuts the grass instead of tearing it. Every visit includes string trimming around beds, fences and hardscape and a full blow-off of walks, patio and driveway, so the property looks finished when we pull away.

Why Bellingham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Lawn Mowing

Bellingham stretches from the North Bellingham and Caryville villages on the Charles River down to the neighborhoods off Route 126 and Route 140. Interstate 495 also runs right through the middle of town. Most of our Bellingham work is residential: split-levels and colonials from the 1960s through the 1990s, newer developments off Hartford Avenue and Lake Street, and homes around Silver Lake. We also care for commercial properties on the Route 126 retail strip that need dependable year-round care.

Bellingham soils are generally sandier and stonier than the towns east of us, with fast-draining outwash near the Charles River and its ponds and heavier till on the uplands. Fast drainage sounds like a good thing until the lawn browns out in a dry July and the mulch beds bake. So soil building, watering habits and the right plant choices matter more here than almost anywhere else we work.

Lawn Mowing benefits for Bellingham, MA properties

  • A thicker, greener lawn simply from a correct cut
  • Fewer weeds because taller grass shades them out
  • Clean edges and blown-off hardscape every week
  • One less weekend chore, every week, all season
  • Problems spotted early by someone who sees the lawn weekly

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Bellingham call us about lawn mowing because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Grass cut too short and burned out by mid-July
  • Dull blades that shred the grass tips and leave the lawn looking brown
  • The mowing service skips a week and the lawn goes to seed
  • Ruts and clumps from mowing a soaked lawn
  • Trimming skipped, so the edges around beds and fences grow wild
  • A different crew every week with no idea where the sprinkler heads are

What’s included

  • Weekly mowing at a seasonal height
  • String trimming around every edge, bed and obstacle
  • Blowing off all walks, patios and driveways
  • Bagging or mulching clippings as the lawn needs
  • Alternating mowing patterns to prevent ruts
  • A consistent day and a consistent crew

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope lawn mowing for a Bellingham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Lawn Mowing works in Bellingham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a lawn mowing job runs in Bellingham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the lawn

We check the grass type, sun and shade, irrigation and problem areas so we mow it the way it needs, not the way most crews mow every lawn.

02

Set the day

You get a regular weekly day and a season price. Rain pushes us by a day and we let you know.

03

Mow, trim, blow

Sharp blades, correct height, alternating pattern, every edge trimmed, every hard surface blown clean.

04

Watch for problems

We flag grubs, fungus, dry spots and weeds while they are small. You hear about it before it costs you.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price lawn mowing in Bellingham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Lawn square footage and how many separate areas there are

Obstacles, slopes and the amount of trimming

Gates, access and whether clippings need hauling

Frequency and whether you bundle it with maintenance

When to schedule Lawn Mowing in Bellingham, MA

Mowing starts as soon as the grass needs it, usually mid-April, and runs until growth stops in November. New customers can start any week of the season. If your current service is unreliable, do not wait for next spring to switch.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You are behind on mowing more weekends than not
  • The current service is inconsistent or keeps changing crews
  • The lawn looks brown after every cut
  • You would rather spend Saturday morning doing anything else

Lawn Mowing questions from Bellingham, MA customers

How much does lawn mowing cost in Bellingham, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for lawn mowing in Bellingham, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
What height do you mow at?
Around three inches in summer and a bit shorter for the first and last cuts. Taller grass in the heat keeps roots deeper and crowds out weeds.
Do you bag the clippings?
We mulch them back into the lawn whenever the grass is dry and the growth is normal, which feeds the lawn. Bagging only happens when clippings would clump.
What if it rains on my day?
Rain days move you by a day, and we let you know. Mowing a saturated lawn does more harm than waiting.

Bellingham history and geography

History

The area of the town south of the Charles River constituted the southwestern corner of the Dedham Grant, which sprouted much of what has become Norfolk County. The land was swampy, and the town of Dedham did not believe it worthy of settlement. The area north of the river would be purchased by Edward Rawson, and due to the settlement of borders with the surrounding communities, these two areas would eventually merge. Most of the land to be called Bellingham was originally a portion of Dedham.
The first land bought in Bellingham that was Dedham was purchased in 1696 by a man who believed that that government is best which governs least. By 1713, there were enough citizens to warrant village meetings in the area. By 1718, the village petitioned for separation, and the town officially incorporated on November 27, 1719. The village was originally named "Westham" (short for "West Dedham"), but at the time of incorporation, its name was changed to Bellingham without record of the benefactor. The town is named for Richard Bellingham, an early governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The town was founded with a Pilgrim (Congregationalist) meeting house, like all the towns in the colony at the time. However, this church would dissolve before the middle of the century, replaced with a Baptist church. John Leland, a Baptist minister, who was a major supporter of James Madison and the First Amendment to the Constitution, was baptized in Bellingham's Baptist church in 1775.

Geography and transportation

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.0 square miles (49.2 km²), of which 18.5 square miles (47.9 km²) is land and 0.5 square mile (1.3 km) (2.58%) is water. The town's mean elevation is 293 feet (89 m) above sea level.
Bellingham is located at the southwestern corner of Norfolk County, just northwest of the northeastern corner of Rhode Island. It is bordered by Medway on the north, Franklin to the east, Wrentham to the southeast; Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on the south; and Blackstone, Hopedale and Mendon to the west, and Milford to the northwest. Bellingham is 23 miles (37 km) southeast of Worcester, 30 miles (50 km) southwest of Boston, and 20 miles (30 km) north of Providence.

Education

As of 2024, there are two elementary schools (Stallbrook, and DiPietro), one middle school (Bellingham Memorial), and two high schools (Bellingham High School and Keough Memorial Academy). The Clara Macy Elementary school was closed before the start of the 2015–2016 school year and was demolished the following year. The children who attended Clara Macy school in the 2014–2015 school year were divided geographically between the remaining two elementary schools. Joseph F. DiPietro Elementary School was formally known as South Elementary school for the majority of its history.
In 2019, Bellingham High School ranked 205 in Massachusetts as a result many families elect to school choice to nearby towns of Medway and Holliston or go to private and technical schools, Tri-County in Franklin, Blackstone Valley Tech in Upton, and Mount St. Charles in Woonsocket, RI. Bellingham High's sports teams have competed in the Tri-Valley League since the leagues induction in 1966. Bellingham is known for producing good baseball, softball and football teams and are not considered an easy win in other sports by the other members of the league.
