Every good project starts with the site done right

Looking for sitework in Bellingham, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about fifteen minutes away.

Sitework is the part of a project nobody photographs and everybody depends on. The grade that keeps water out of the basement, the compacted base under the driveway, the trench for the drain line and the restoration after the pool company leaves are all sitework. All of it has to be right before anything built on top of it can be. Bellingham homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every sitework job in town.

We run our own excavators, skid steers and compaction equipment. So we can handle a yard restoration after a septic replacement, a driveway base, a drainage trench or the excavation for a full landscape project. There is no waiting on someone else. We shoot grades with a laser, manage spoils responsibly and leave the site clean and ready for whatever comes next.

Why Bellingham, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Sitework

Bellingham stretches from the North Bellingham and Caryville villages on the Charles River down to the neighborhoods off Route 126 and Route 140. Interstate 495 also runs right through the middle of town. Most of our Bellingham work is residential: split-levels and colonials from the 1960s through the 1990s, newer developments off Hartford Avenue and Lake Street, and homes around Silver Lake. We also care for commercial properties on the Route 126 retail strip that need dependable year-round care.

Bellingham soils are generally sandier and stonier than the towns east of us, with fast-draining outwash near the Charles River and its ponds and heavier till on the uplands. Fast drainage sounds like a good thing until the lawn browns out in a dry July and the mulch beds bake. So soil building, watering habits and the right plant choices matter more here than almost anywhere else we work.

Sitework benefits for Bellingham, MA properties

  • Water moved away from the house for good
  • A yard restored to lawn and beds after construction
  • Bases that stay flat under driveways, pads and hardscape
  • One crew with its own equipment instead of a chain of subcontractors
  • A site that is ready for the next project

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Bellingham call us about sitework because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Water running toward the house because nobody ever graded the lot properly
  • A yard destroyed by a pool, septic or foundation project and left as dirt
  • Stumps and brush taking over the back of the property
  • A gravel driveway that washes out every spring
  • A pad or shed base with no compaction under it
  • Waiting weeks for an excavator to fit you in

What’s included

  • Excavation and trenching
  • Rough and finish grading to move water away from structures
  • Compacted base for driveways, pads and hardscape
  • Brush clearing and small stump removal
  • Site restoration with loam and lawn after construction
  • Drainage installation and material hauling

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope sitework for a Bellingham property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Sitework works in Bellingham, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a sitework job runs in Bellingham, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the water

Every site plan starts with where water comes from and where it needs to go. We shoot the grades and plan the drainage before we dig.

02

Excavate and grade

Our own equipment handles the excavation, trenching and rough grading, with spoils managed and hauled as needed.

03

Compact and base

Driveways, pads and hardscape areas get a compacted stone base built in lifts so they do not settle.

04

Restore and finish

Finish grading, loam and lawn or beds put the property back together, cleaner than we found it.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price sitework in Bellingham, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Volume of excavation and material to move or haul

Grading area and how much loam the job needs

Drainage, base and compaction requirements

Access, ledge and disposal

When to schedule Sitework in Bellingham, MA

Sitework runs from the spring thaw until the ground freezes. Restoration after pool and septic projects is best done immediately so the yard does not erode all summer. Driveway and pad bases need dry conditions, so late spring through fall is ideal.

Signs it’s time to call

  • Water pools against the foundation or floods the yard
  • A construction project left the yard as a dirt lot
  • You need a base for a driveway, shed, pad or patio
  • Brush and stumps have taken over part of the property

Why choose Ten Four for Sitework in Bellingham, MA

Certainly, plenty of people will quote you sitework in Bellingham. But here is what you get with Ten Four Landscape & Construction that you do not get everywhere else:

  • Our own equipment and operators — no waiting on a subcontractor’s schedule.
  • Grades set with a laser — water goes where it should, every time.
  • Cleaned up and restored — you get a finished site, not just a dug one.
  • Licensed, insured and local since 2012 — the same owner-operator since day one. We also serve Bellingham from our yard at 2570 West St in Wrentham, about fifteen minutes away.
  • Everything in writing — a free written estimate with the scope spelled out before any work starts.

Our Wrentham yard is a short drive from any Bellingham address. That holds whether you are near the Franklin line, up in North Bellingham or out toward the Blackstone and Milford borders.

Bellingham history and geography

History

The area of the town south of the Charles River constituted the southwestern corner of the Dedham Grant, which sprouted much of what has become Norfolk County. The land was swampy, and the town of Dedham did not believe it worthy of settlement. The area north of the river would be purchased by Edward Rawson, and due to the settlement of borders with the surrounding communities, these two areas would eventually merge. Most of the land to be called Bellingham was originally a portion of Dedham.
The first land bought in Bellingham that was Dedham was purchased in 1696 by a man who believed that that government is best which governs least. By 1713, there were enough citizens to warrant village meetings in the area. By 1718, the village petitioned for separation, and the town officially incorporated on November 27, 1719. The village was originally named "Westham" (short for "West Dedham"), but at the time of incorporation, its name was changed to Bellingham without record of the benefactor. The town is named for Richard Bellingham, an early governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The town was founded with a Pilgrim (Congregationalist) meeting house, like all the towns in the colony at the time. However, this church would dissolve before the middle of the century, replaced with a Baptist church. John Leland, a Baptist minister, who was a major supporter of James Madison and the First Amendment to the Constitution, was baptized in Bellingham's Baptist church in 1775.

Geography and transportation

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.0 square miles (49.2 km²), of which 18.5 square miles (47.9 km²) is land and 0.5 square mile (1.3 km) (2.58%) is water. The town's mean elevation is 293 feet (89 m) above sea level.
Bellingham is located at the southwestern corner of Norfolk County, just northwest of the northeastern corner of Rhode Island. It is bordered by Medway on the north, Franklin to the east, Wrentham to the southeast; Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on the south; and Blackstone, Hopedale and Mendon to the west, and Milford to the northwest. Bellingham is 23 miles (37 km) southeast of Worcester, 30 miles (50 km) southwest of Boston, and 20 miles (30 km) north of Providence.

Education

As of 2024, there are two elementary schools (Stallbrook, and DiPietro), one middle school (Bellingham Memorial), and two high schools (Bellingham High School and Keough Memorial Academy). The Clara Macy Elementary school was closed before the start of the 2015–2016 school year and was demolished the following year. The children who attended Clara Macy school in the 2014–2015 school year were divided geographically between the remaining two elementary schools. Joseph F. DiPietro Elementary School was formally known as South Elementary school for the majority of its history.
In 2019, Bellingham High School ranked 205 in Massachusetts as a result many families elect to school choice to nearby towns of Medway and Holliston or go to private and technical schools, Tri-County in Franklin, Blackstone Valley Tech in Upton, and Mount St. Charles in Woonsocket, RI. Bellingham High's sports teams have competed in the Tri-Valley League since the leagues induction in 1966. Bellingham is known for producing good baseball, softball and football teams and are not considered an easy win in other sports by the other members of the league.
