Landscaper service in Medway, MA

Every good project starts with the site done right

Looking for sitework in Medway, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Sitework is the part of a project nobody photographs and everybody depends on. The grade that keeps water out of the basement, the compacted base under the driveway, the trench for the drain line and the restoration after the pool company leaves are all sitework. All of it has to be right before anything built on top of it can be. Medway homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every sitework job in town.

We run our own excavators, skid steers and compaction equipment. So we can handle a yard restoration after a septic replacement, a driveway base, a drainage trench or the excavation for a full landscape project. There is no waiting on someone else. We shoot grades with a laser, manage spoils responsibly and leave the site clean and ready for whatever comes next.

Why Medway, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Sitework

Medway is a family-oriented town on the Charles River, north of Franklin. Its neighborhoods range from the historic homes of Medway Village along Village Street to ranch and colonial subdivisions off Route 109, Holliston Street and Winthrop Street. Lots here tend to be flatter and more open than in the ledge-heavy towns to the south, and many homeowners have real yards to work with. That makes Medway a great place for patios, lawns and plantings done right the first time.

The Charles River and Chicken Brook shape the ground in Medway. Soil near the river is sandy and drains fast, while the inland neighborhoods often sit on compacted till or old farmland with a hard layer under the topsoil. Both create lawn and drainage problems that look identical on the surface and need completely different fixes. That is why we check the soil and watch how water moves across the property before we recommend anything.

Sitework benefits for Medway, MA properties

  • Water moved away from the house for good
  • A yard restored to lawn and beds after construction
  • Bases that stay flat under driveways, pads and hardscape
  • One crew with its own equipment instead of a chain of subcontractors
  • A site that is ready for the next project

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Medway call us about sitework because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • Water running toward the house because nobody ever graded the lot properly
  • A yard destroyed by a pool, septic or foundation project and left as dirt
  • Stumps and brush taking over the back of the property
  • A gravel driveway that washes out every spring
  • A pad or shed base with no compaction under it
  • Waiting weeks for an excavator to fit you in

What’s included

  • Excavation and trenching
  • Rough and finish grading to move water away from structures
  • Compacted base for driveways, pads and hardscape
  • Brush clearing and small stump removal
  • Site restoration with loam and lawn after construction
  • Drainage installation and material hauling

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope sitework for a Medway property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Sitework works in Medway, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a sitework job runs in Medway, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Look at the water

Every site plan starts with where water comes from and where it needs to go. We shoot the grades and plan the drainage before we dig.

02

Excavate and grade

Our own equipment handles the excavation, trenching and rough grading, with spoils managed and hauled as needed.

03

Compact and base

Driveways, pads and hardscape areas get a compacted stone base built in lifts so they do not settle.

04

Restore and finish

Finish grading, loam and lawn or beds put the property back together, cleaner than we found it.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price sitework in Medway, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Volume of excavation and material to move or haul

Grading area and how much loam the job needs

Drainage, base and compaction requirements

Access, ledge and disposal

When to schedule Sitework in Medway, MA

Sitework runs from the spring thaw until the ground freezes. Restoration after pool and septic projects is best done immediately so the yard does not erode all summer. Driveway and pad bases need dry conditions, so late spring through fall is ideal.

Signs it’s time to call

  • Water pools against the foundation or floods the yard
  • A construction project left the yard as a dirt lot
  • You need a base for a driveway, shed, pad or patio
  • Brush and stumps have taken over part of the property

Medway history and geography

History

Medway was first settled in 1657 and was officially incorporated in 1713. At that time, Medway began as a farming community of two hundred thirty-three. It was not long before the water power of the Charles River and Chicken Brook stimulated the formation of cotton and paper mills, straw and boot factories, and a variety of cottage industries. Medway demonstrates the central importance of the Charles River and the thriving town that grew alongside it. Today, the one-room schoolhouses are gone and the country stores have moved to the mall, but the open town meetings continue.
After nearby Medfield was established as a town in 1651, an increasing number of newcomers settled on the land west of the Charles River. By 1712, this settlement west of the Charles had grown large enough to petition the Massachusetts General Court for the creation of a separate new town. That petition was granted, and the town of Medway incorporated on October 25, 1713. At its founding by Henry Garnsey, and for 170 years afterward, the town of Medway included the land that is now Millis. Eventually, the eastern section of the town, known as East Medway, separated in 1885 to form the town of Millis, and Medway assumed the shape it has today.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.5 square miles (30 km²), of which 11.4 square miles (30 km²) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km²) (0.78%) is water. Medway is the geographical center between Boston, Worcester, and Providence, which is purported by some to explain the origin of the name. However, like many New England cities and towns, it most likely derived its name from an English location, in this case, the region of Medway, England, or the River Medway. Likely both its geographical location and a nod to old England compelled the choice of town name.

Transportation

Both Route 109 and Route 126 pass through the town and serve as some of the main roads in the town. Interstate 495 shortly passes through the southwest corner of the town, but does not provide any exits. The closest exits are in nearby Bellingham and Milford.
The closest MBTA Commuter Rail service is at Forge Park/495, Franklin, and Norfolk stations on the Franklin/Foxboro Line. Until 1966, the Millis Branch served stations at Medway and West Medway.
