Landscaper service in Medway, MA

An outdoor kitchen turns the patio into the most-used room in the house

Looking for outdoor kitchens in Medway, MA? Ten Four Landscape & Construction has handled it for homeowners, business owners and property managers across Norfolk County since 2012. Our Wrentham yard is also about twenty minutes away.

Outdoor kitchens are the upgrade that changes how a family uses the yard from May through October. Instead of running in and out of the house all evening, the cooking, the drinks and the conversation all happen outside. You get a counter that does not wobble and a grill you never have to drag out of the garage. Medway homeowners have relied on us as their local landscaper for years. So we bring that same approach to every outdoor kitchens job in town.

We build the kitchen as a permanent structure on the same compacted base as the patio and frame it in block or masonry. Then we finish it in stone veneer or matching pavers and top it with granite, bluestone or concrete counters. We set built-in grills, burners, refrigerators, sinks and storage into the frame. Then we coordinate the gas and electrical work with licensed trades, so the whole thing happens right and happens once.

Why Medway, MA homeowners call Ten Four for Outdoor Kitchens

Medway is a family-oriented town on the Charles River, north of Franklin. Its neighborhoods range from the historic homes of Medway Village along Village Street to ranch and colonial subdivisions off Route 109, Holliston Street and Winthrop Street. Lots here tend to be flatter and more open than in the ledge-heavy towns to the south, and many homeowners have real yards to work with. That makes Medway a great place for patios, lawns and plantings done right the first time.

The Charles River and Chicken Brook shape the ground in Medway. Soil near the river is sandy and drains fast, while the inland neighborhoods often sit on compacted till or old farmland with a hard layer under the topsoil. Both create lawn and drainage problems that look identical on the surface and need completely different fixes. That is why we check the soil and watch how water moves across the property before we recommend anything.

Outdoor Kitchens benefits for Medway, MA properties

  • Cooking and hosting outside without the back-and-forth
  • A permanent, level, weatherproof kitchen that lasts
  • Counters, storage and seating that make the patio a room
  • Real value added to the home
  • Everything coordinated by one crew instead of five contractors

Problems we fix most often

Most people in Medway call us about outdoor kitchens because something has already gone wrong. Others, meanwhile, want to make sure it never does. In short, these are the issues we see most often. Every one of them is also preventable when we do the work right the first time:

  • A grill on wheels and a folding table that never look right
  • Running in and out of the house all evening
  • A prefab kitchen kit that rusted or cracked in two winters
  • A counter that wobbles because it sits on pavers set on soil
  • No plan for gas, water or power, so nothing works right
  • A patio with no place to gather while someone cooks

What’s included

  • Layout and design matched to the patio and how you cook
  • Compacted base and patio surface for the kitchen area
  • Block or masonry frame with stone veneer or paver finish
  • Granite, bluestone or concrete countertops
  • Built-in grill, burners, refrigeration and storage cutouts
  • Coordination of gas, water and electrical with licensed trades

Above all, every one of those items is part of the price we quote, not an upsell. When we scope outdoor kitchens for a Medway property, we spell out exactly what you get. So there are no surprises on the invoice, and no corners cut where you cannot see them.

How Outdoor Kitchens works in Medway, MA

We keep the process simple and predictable so you always know what is happening and what comes next. Here is how a outdoor kitchens job runs in Medway, MA with Ten Four, from the first call to the final walkthrough. The owner is also reachable at every step.

01

Plan the layout

We map the cooking zone, prep space, bar seating and where the gas, water and power will come from, so the kitchen works the way you cook.

02

Build the base

The kitchen sits on a compacted stone base with the patio, never on pavers over soil, so the counters stay level.

03

Frame and finish

Block or masonry frame, finished in stone or pavers to match the rest of the hardscape, with counters templated and set.

04

Install and connect

We set the appliances, and licensed trades we coordinate for you connect the gas, water and electrical.

What drives the price

Honest answer: we price outdoor kitchens in Medway, MA by the job rather than off a rate card. Why? Because no two properties are the same. Generally, anyone who quotes a firm price over the phone without seeing the site is guessing. That guess usually turns into a change order later. So here are a few of the things that move the price up or down:

Length of counter and the number of appliances

Countertop material and stone or paver finish

Gas, water and electrical runs and the trades required

Patio work and a fire feature or seating added at the same time

When to schedule Outdoor Kitchens in Medway, MA

We build outdoor kitchens spring through early winter, usually as part of a patio project or an addition to an existing one. A kitchen planned over the winter can be ready by Memorial Day; one started in late summer is ready for fall cooking. Appliance lead times can be several weeks, so plan early.

Signs it’s time to call

  • You cook outside most nights all summer
  • Your guests end up outside while you cook, and you want to be out there too
  • You are planning a new patio and want it to be more than a slab
  • Your grill setup looks temporary because it is

Outdoor Kitchens questions from Medway, MA customers

How much do outdoor kitchens cost in Medway, MA?
It depends on the size of the property, site access and the materials involved, as well as the season. Estimates for outdoor kitchens in Medway, MA are free and in writing. Seth also walks the property with you first, so the number reflects the real job, not a guess.
What does an outdoor kitchen include?
Most include a built-in grill, counter space, storage and often a refrigerator, side burner and bar seating. A sink and water are optional. We build to what you will actually use.
Can you add a kitchen to my existing patio?
Yes, if the base is sound. If the patio sits on soil, we rebuild that section so the kitchen does not settle.
What counter material is best outdoors?
Granite is the most durable and popular. Bluestone and sealed concrete are also good choices. We avoid materials that stain or crack in freeze-thaw.

More Outdoor Kitchens questions, answered

Do you handle the gas and electrical?
We coordinate licensed plumbers and electricians as part of the project, so you do not have to manage them.
How long does it take?
Two to three weeks for the kitchen itself, longer if it is part of a full patio project, plus appliance lead times.
Should I get a pergola or roof over it?
Many customers add a pergola or pavilion for shade and rain. We can build the kitchen so you can add a structure now or later.

Medway history and geography

History

Medway was first settled in 1657 and was officially incorporated in 1713. At that time, Medway began as a farming community of two hundred thirty-three. It was not long before the water power of the Charles River and Chicken Brook stimulated the formation of cotton and paper mills, straw and boot factories, and a variety of cottage industries. Medway demonstrates the central importance of the Charles River and the thriving town that grew alongside it. Today, the one-room schoolhouses are gone and the country stores have moved to the mall, but the open town meetings continue.
After nearby Medfield was established as a town in 1651, an increasing number of newcomers settled on the land west of the Charles River. By 1712, this settlement west of the Charles had grown large enough to petition the Massachusetts General Court for the creation of a separate new town. That petition was granted, and the town of Medway incorporated on October 25, 1713. At its founding by Henry Garnsey, and for 170 years afterward, the town of Medway included the land that is now Millis. Eventually, the eastern section of the town, known as East Medway, separated in 1885 to form the town of Millis, and Medway assumed the shape it has today.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.5 square miles (30 km²), of which 11.4 square miles (30 km²) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km²) (0.78%) is water. Medway is the geographical center between Boston, Worcester, and Providence, which is purported by some to explain the origin of the name. However, like many New England cities and towns, it most likely derived its name from an English location, in this case, the region of Medway, England, or the River Medway. Likely both its geographical location and a nod to old England compelled the choice of town name.

Transportation

Both Route 109 and Route 126 pass through the town and serve as some of the main roads in the town. Interstate 495 shortly passes through the southwest corner of the town, but does not provide any exits. The closest exits are in nearby Bellingham and Milford.
The closest MBTA Commuter Rail service is at Forge Park/495, Franklin, and Norfolk stations on the Franklin/Foxboro Line. Until 1966, the Millis Branch served stations at Medway and West Medway.
